State of Michigan Department of Insurance Requirements |
- Licensees are required to complete 24 hours total including a minimum of 3 ethics hours every 2 years.
- State prefers hours to be completed 30 days before expiration date
- Exams must be monitored by a disinterested third party.
- Courses are repeatable every 2 years.
- Carryover takes effect July 1, 2018 for Producers and Solicitors with a July 1, 2018 CE review date and later. If a licensee completes additional CE hours in the current review period, up to 12 may be applied (carried over) to the next review period.
- Course provider reports course completion to the state. Reporting is done once a week on Wednesdays.
- In order to report the continuing education credits to Michigan to renew an insurance license, licensees must use their seven-digit license number and not their driver license number, or social security number, or phone number, or any other number.
- Failure to comply with C.E. requirement results in suspension of license until credits are completed.
- If an agent does NOT complete his 24 hours, his license is suspended for 90 days or until he finishes the 24 hours. He can still do business that he was already working on, but he cannot get new customers.
- After 90 days, licensees have up to a year to do 24 hours then reapply to the state for licensure and pay all appropriate fees or the license will be terminated completely.

- Exam must be proctored by a disinterested third party
- Proctor must be present during entire length of final exam
- After completing and submitting exam online, a downloadable version of the Affidavit for Test Administrator form must be printed out from the computer which the exam was taken and signed by the proctor.

- After Affidavit has been filled out and signed by proctor, please fax to 619-222-8593
- Upon receipt of the Affidavit, you will be given access to print out the certificate of completion for the course that was succesfully completed.
- Credits for completion of course will be submitted by roster via the Internet to appropriate state insurance department or credit processing firm. Reporting is done once a week on Wednesdays.
